Veteran British broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan has died at the age of 68, one year after publicly revealing that he had been diagnosed with stage four prostate cancer.
The respected journalist, who enjoyed a distinguished career across the BBC, ITV and Sky News, passed away after spending the past year undergoing treatment for the disease.
Last summer, Dermot bravely announced his diagnosis, telling supporters that he had been responding positively to treatment while using his own experience to encourage greater awareness of prostate cancer.

He urged men not to ignore the risks of the disease and stressed the importance of getting tested early, hoping his story would inspire others to seek medical advice before it was too late.
Away from news broadcasting, Dermot was also a familiar face to millions of viewers as the long-serving host of the popular BBC quiz show Eggheads, which he presented for more than a decade.
His death marks the end of an outstanding broadcasting career that spanned decades and made him one of Britain’s most recognisable television journalists.
