Prince William and Princess Kate lead the royal family at the Windsor Easter service, joined by the King and Queen — while Andrew is absent and his daughters fail to appear

The Royal Family put on a striking display of unity at Windsor’s traditional Easter Sunday service — but behind the smiles, notable absences and lingering tensions told a deeper story.

King Charles and Queen Camilla led the royal procession at St George’s Chapel, joined by the Prince and Princess of Wales and their three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis — in a rare full-family appearance that delighted crowds gathered outside Windsor Castle.

Walking down together despite blustery winds, William and Kate appeared relaxed and cheerful, chatting with their children as they made their way to the chapel. Charlotte looked especially joyful, waving to well-wishers, while Louis walked proudly beside her, adding a sweet touch to the royal moment.

Also present were Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence, alongside the Duke of Edinburgh and his son James, Earl of Wessex. Peter Phillips attended with his partner Harriet Sperling, who brought her daughter Georgina — marking a visible sign of the monarchy’s increasingly blended modern family dynamic.

Arriving separately in the State Bentley, Camilla wore a striking red wool crepe dress paired with a Philip Treacy hat and a brooch once belonging to Queen Elizabeth II, while Charles appeared in high spirits, warmly greeting relatives and gently placing a hand on Princess Charlotte’s shoulder in a tender moment that did not go unnoticed.

But while the main royal lineup projected unity, the absence of Prince Andrew — along with his daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie — was impossible to ignore.

Andrew, who has been engulfed in controversy, did not attend the service. Instead, he was seen the day before walking his dogs alone on the Sandringham estate — a stark contrast to the family gathering at Windsor.

Sources suggest the decision for Andrew and his daughters to stay away was made with the King’s agreement, with insiders insisting they may rejoin the family at future events. However, the current circumstances made their absence unavoidable.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s wife Sophie was also missing, reportedly feeling unwell, while Lady Louise was absent due to her studies.

The Easter appearance marked a return for William and Kate after they missed last year’s service while spending time privately with their children, and also their absence in 2024 following Kate’s emotional cancer treatment announcement.

Crowds gathered early in anticipation of the royal procession, cheering as the family made their way to the chapel in a moment that blended tradition, resilience, and quiet change within the monarchy.

Yet the contrast between the warm family scenes and Andrew’s solitary walk — combined with the continued absence of Beatrice and Eugenie — served as a reminder that while the Royal Family may present a united front, fractures beneath the surface have not fully healed.
