Pete Wicks Finds ‘The Right Match’ After Maura Higgins Split – But It’s Not What You Think

Pete Wicks has opened up for the first time since his reported split from Maura Higgins — and his comments about finding “the right match” have caught fans by surprise.

The 37-year-old TV personality, known for TOWIE and more recently Strictly Come Dancing, was rumoured to have ended things with Maura back in February amid whispers of infidelity. But now, Pete says he’s found the perfect companion — just not in the way many expected.

Speaking to The Express, Pete shared that the real love of his life may not be a person at all, but his dogs. “As far as I’m concerned, it’s about finding the right match,” he said. “It’s like looking for a husband or a wife — you have to find the right match for your lifestyle.”

He went on to reflect on how people often choose the wrong partner — or pet — by focusing on appearances or trends rather than compatibility. “People go for certain breeds or looks that don’t necessarily fit with their life. For me, dogs are better than people. They always have been, and they always will be.”

Pete, who owns two French Bulldogs, Eric and Peggy, said that dogs only want love — and when you give it to them, they return it tenfold. “I love every dog,” he added. “It’s not about rescues or a specific breed. They just love you.”

The comments come as Pete’s new TV project For Dog’s Sake has officially been renewed for a second season. The show, which follows Pete’s adventures with rescue dogs and pet charities, was praised for his genuine connection with animals and even earned comparisons to For The Love of Dogs, previously hosted by the late Paul O’Grady.

An insider told The Sun that Pete’s warmth and authenticity shone through on screen, adding, “Viewers could see just how much he adores canines.”

While fans may have hoped for details on his romantic rebound, it seems for now Pete Wicks is putting all his love into four-legged friendships — and he looks happier than ever.
