The 35-year-old took to Instagram to speak candidly about her past while discussing women’s safety, revealing that she had suffered sexual abuse at the hands of her father over a prolonged period. It marked the first time she had publicly addressed the trauma, having previously only hinted at a “difficult” relationship with him before his death when she was 18.
In the video, Katie said she had never spoken about the experience openly, explaining that even among friends and family, it remained largely unspoken. She admitted, “I have never spoken about this publicly… I was raped by my dad for years, years and years.”
Speaking from her car, she described how therapy has helped her find some level of balance, though she acknowledged that healing is ongoing. She said there are still moments when the trauma resurfaces, but added that reaching a place where she can manage those feelings “as best as I can” has been a long journey.
Katie also reflected on the wider issue of women’s safety, saying that recent reports had left her shaken and emotionally affected. She pointed out that most cases of domestic violence and sexual abuse are committed by men, adding that in situations like hers, the perpetrator is often someone known to the victim—such as a family member or partner.

She said she often finds herself hyper-aware of her surroundings, holding her keys tightly and questioning whether she is being watched.
