Melanie Sykes Proudly Embraces Her Shaved Head After Alopecia Battle Left Her Losing Two-Thirds of Her Hair

Melanie Sykes has shared another inspiring update with fans, proudly revealing her shaved head in a powerful Instagram post after losing around two-thirds of her hair during her battle with alopecia.

The 55-year-old television presenter posted a striking selfie on Monday, confidently embracing her new appearance while offering words of encouragement to followers.

Alongside the image, Melanie wrote: “Divine Timing………. #itsathing #workout #mondaymotivations #beginagain #build”, adding arm muscle emojis to reinforce her uplifting message. She wore a simple pink vest top for the post and chose to disable comments.

The post comes just a week after Melanie first unveiled her completely shaved head, marking another milestone in the health journey she has openly documented over the past year.

Melanie first revealed her alopecia diagnosis in April 2025, sharing images that exposed the significant hair loss on both sides of her head. At the time, she captioned the emotional post with the single word: “#Liberty.”

Months later, she admitted the condition had taken a serious toll on her wellbeing.

“I am not well, as you know, I’ve been ill all year. I’ve got a condition. I’m losing my hair. I keep having crazy, like, all over everything, and I’m working on healing,” she explained.

The presenter also disclosed that she has been dealing with a heart condition that causes palpitations, alongside widespread inflammation affecting her body.

Despite the difficult diagnosis, Melanie ended 2025 by sharing an optimistic outlook, revealing she had experienced what she described as “Post-Traumatic Growth.”

Speaking candidly on Instagram, she explained that she felt she was “vibrating high” after “transcending trauma”, despite continuing to cope with the autoimmune condition that had left her “two-thirds bald” and battling persistent inflammation.

She said: “Even the most difficult times do pass, they do, and I just want to use this term post traumatic growth, it’s real, you can be suffering from PTSD but still at the same time be experiencing post traumatic growth.”

Melanie added: “I’m in both camps because you can be both things at once, as long as I attend to myself and what makes me happy and feel grief about whatever has gone on and process it and move on from it.”

She concluded with a message of hope, declaring: “We can transcend all trauma, we can be changed, and I am living f*ing proof of that!”**

Earlier this year, Melanie gave fans another heartfelt update on her recovery while reflecting on the physical changes caused by alopecia.

“Hey strumps, my crown is pretty much what’s left of my hair now and how healthy it is.”

She continued: “I do get cold, however, hence my beanie and various headwear, but I’m learning to live with ‘loss’ and counting my blessings instead.”

Encouraging others to focus on gratitude, she added: “It’s not always easy to be grateful, but it is the key to happiness and takes daily, moment-to-moment practice. Practice love.”

When she first confirmed her diagnosis, Melanie explained that the condition had developed during a period of severe emotional stress while she was undergoing medical investigations.

“I am experiencing alopecia and heart issues due to all that has happened over the last few months. PTSD, shock, mistreatment and malpractice,” she revealed.

Although she has remained open about her health struggles, Melanie has repeatedly encouraged fans not to dwell on her illness.

“Life is so good, and I know it because I’m right here right now and there’s nothing to fear. There is nothing to fear,” she said.

She continued: “The more I tune into faith, and believing that all is well because it is… it’ll only get better.”

The presenter also urged supporters to focus on their own wellbeing rather than worrying about her.

“Don’t worry about me, I’ve got me, I’ve always got me, I’ve learned to really take care of myself in the last two years.”

Melanie has also revealed she continues to live with widespread inflammation throughout her body while dedicating much of her time to meditation and personal healing.

She explained that she had completed most of a meditation teacher training course before becoming too unwell to finish the final sessions.

Reflecting on her journey, she said: “Mostly I’ve been living a very, very very spiritual existence. It’s been a while I have ignited my YouTube channel again after a long period of learning, meditating and healing (this is ongoing.) Remember I love you always.”
