Jamie Laing and Sophie Habboo have opened up about the extraordinary twist of fate that helped them secure the house of their dreams – after four long years of searching.
The former Made In Chelsea stars, who are now expecting their first child, proudly unveiled their £12million London property this week, fresh from a gruelling 14-month renovation.
The couple revealed that their big break came when an article about their failed house-hunting was spotted by the grandmother of the property’s then-owner. She immediately phoned her grandson and declared Sophie and Jamie the “perfect buyers.” By sheer coincidence, the couple had already booked a viewing that very same day.
While Jamie admitted he was initially unconvinced, Sophie was instantly smitten. “If we don’t put an offer in, I’m going to divorce you,” she joked — words that persuaded Jamie to act fast. Their offer went in before the day was out.
On Instagram, Jamie gave fans a full tour, showing off the jaw-dropping open-plan kitchen with its vast marble island, four skylights and cosy wooden panelling. He laughed that the renovation nearly ended their marriage: “14 months, 10,000 arguments and nearly divorced later, we’ve finally finished.”
For Sophie, the kitchen was always the heart of the home. Jamie, however, reserved his biggest excitement for the plush cinema room — complete with striped carpet, bar, high-end speakers and jars of his Candy Kittens sweets. “I grew up obsessed with films. To have our own cinema, where we can curl up with popcorn — that is the dream,” he said.
Sophie playfully reminded him that it wasn’t always the plan: “Jamie wanted a golf simulator in the basement. Luckily, we persuaded him a cinema was better.”
The couple, whose friendship turned to romance in 2019, tied the knot in Spain in 2023 and announced Sophie’s pregnancy earlier this year. With their dream home ready “just in time,” they are about to step into parenthood under one very glamorous roof.
