Jack Osbourne spoke out about his relationship with his sister Aimee: “We don’t have a great relationship – it’s no secret”. Aimee avoided the spotlight, moved out at 16, and never looked back. But at Ozzy’s funeral, she quietly stood by her family – and the world felt the weight of that silence

Jack Osbourne has admitted that he and his rarely-seen older sister Aimee had a distant relationship for years and “weren’t close at all” — until the emotional funeral of their father, rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, brought them back together.

Speaking on the Disrespectfully podcast just weeks before Ozzy’s death, Jack revealed the siblings had barely spoken, saying: “We don’t have a great relationship, she’ll be the first to tell you that. It’s no secret.”

The Osbournes rose to fame with their MTV reality show in the early 2000s, which featured Jack, Kelly, and their parents Ozzy and Sharon. Aimee, however, famously opted out. According to Jack, his sister, now 41, was focused on building a serious music career and thought reality TV would damage her image.

“She wanted to be this obscure, moody artist like Fiona Apple,” Jack explained. “She saw the show as low-hanging fruit, and didn’t want to be seen as riding our coat-tails.”

Aimee moved out of the family home at just 16 and largely stayed out of the public eye. But in a moving turn of events, she stepped into the spotlight at Ozzy’s funeral last month, joining her siblings and mother Sharon in Birmingham as thousands of fans lined the streets to say goodbye to the Black Sabbath icon, who died on July 22 aged 76.

Her appearance was more than symbolic. It marked a rare public moment of unity with both Jack and estranged sister Kelly, with whom she has had a rocky relationship for years. In 2021, Kelly candidly said on a podcast: “We don’t talk. We’re just really different. She doesn’t understand me and I don’t understand her.”

Even Aimee herself once admitted to The Independent in 2015: “I wouldn’t say there is an ease between us, but there is an acceptance. Do we socialize? No.”

Their mother Sharon has previously opened up about the heartbreak of Aimee’s early departure from home, saying on The Talk: “She didn’t want to grow up on camera. She hated the idea. And so she left at 16. I regret every day that she did. It broke my heart.”

Ozzy Osbourne had six children in total, three with Sharon – Aimee, Kelly, and Jack – and three from his first marriage to Thelma Riley.

While the wounds between Aimee and her siblings may still run deep, the quiet moment they stood together to honour their father could mark the beginning of something new.
