Veteran presenter James Whale delivered a heart-wrenching update during what may be one of his final TalkTV appearances, bravely sharing the reality of living with stage four kidney cancer.

Live on James Whale Unleashed, the 74-year-old opened up about his deteriorating health, admitting that things had recently become “very, very difficult.” With co-host Ash Gould by his side, James addressed both the emotional and physical toll of battling cancer for five years.
“Until very recently, everything was quite normal,” he said. “Then you get to a stage like I am now. It’s very difficult.”
He added poignantly: “To anyone else in the final stages of cancer — I know exactly what you’re going through. People say, ‘you look alright’, but it’s all make-up.”

Earlier this year, James revealed that treatment was no longer an option and confessed he would be “lucky to make it to Christmas.” Despite the pain, he praised TalkTV for allowing him to keep broadcasting and even joked about the side effects of his medication.
James, who received an MBE in 2024, remains deeply grateful for the platform to continue doing what he loves — even as he prepares to say goodbye.
