Maya Jama found herself defending her looks and personal life on International Women’s Day after clashing with a cruel online troll who criticised her bikini photos and dragged her former relationship with Stormzy into the argument.
The Love Island presenter, 31, had shared a pair of glamorous photos showing her modelling a tan-coloured bikini on social media. But beneath the images, one critic questioned why people found her attractive, writing: “I’ll never understand people saying she’s peng ever in my life genuinely think she’s dead it’s insane to me.”
Rather than ignore the comment, Maya fired back with a sharp reply that quickly sparked a heated back-and-forth between the pair.
Responding to the jibe, she wrote: “Look, I know this is the highlight of your year, but I promise you, once you finally convince someone to be in a relationship with you, you’ll finally understand that a woman having an ex doesn’t mean she was running through people. Enjoy your day swell head.”
The exchange escalated when the anonymous user referenced Maya’s past relationship with rapper Stormzy and accused her of being insecure for reacting to the comment.
He wrote: “I have 4 kids my heart don’t be mad at me like I said you f***ed Stormzy your insecurities run deep your so pretty but no wedding no kids just bare exes.”
Maya refused to back down, insisting the remark hadn’t upset her while delivering another pointed response.
She replied: “Nope, not ruined my day. It’s quite amusing. I feel sorry for your 4 kids that this is how their dad spends his Sunday though, go and take them to the park and get some fresh air.”
The comments have since been deleted, but screenshots of the exchange quickly circulated online.
The online clash came amid an already difficult period for the TV star and her current partner, Manchester City footballer Ruben Dias.
Earlier this year, the couple were left devastated after burglars targeted their £4million Cheshire mansion while both were away.
Dias was playing an away Champions League match against Galatasaray at the time, while Maya was in South Africa filming Love Island: All Stars.
When Dias returned home, he reportedly discovered the house had been ransacked, with thieves stealing thousands of pounds worth of designer clothes, jewellery and electronics.
The break-in deeply shook the couple, particularly because it was the first home they had moved into together.
A source told The Sun the property was extremely special to them, explaining: “They are devastated, the house is the first they have moved into as a couple and is very special to them. Thankfully, neither was at home, but they are very upset that their personal space has been invaded.”
In response, the pair have now dramatically increased security around the property.
Reports claim they have hired a Strongbox 24-hour security team to live on site in the garden to guard the house around the clock, despite the mansion already having state-of-the-art security systems.
A source explained that private security is becoming increasingly common among Premier League stars, saying: “Lots of footballers have private fitness coaches, chefs, drivers – and now are adding security guards to the list.”
Cheshire Police confirmed they are still investigating the burglary.
A spokesperson said officers received reports of a break-in at an address on Woodbrook Road in Alderley Edge shortly after 11.10pm on January 28. Officers attended the scene and found entry had been forced, with several items stolen. Enquiries are ongoing and police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
