“I Couldn’t Say No…”: Sophie Habboo’s Wedding Regret, Anxiety Spiral And The ADHD Diagnosis

After what should have been the happiest day of her life, Sophie Habboo has revealed a far more complicated truth — one filled with anxiety, overwhelm, and a lingering sadness she’s only now beginning to understand.

The former Made In Chelsea star, 31, admitted she still feels emotional when looking back at her 2023 wedding to Jamie Laing, confessing that beneath the glamour of a lavish 250-guest celebration in Sotogrande, Spain, she was quietly struggling.

Sophie had always envisioned something entirely different — a small, intimate ceremony with just 20 people, barefoot on a beach. But as plans snowballed into a huge “big white wedding,” she found herself unable to push back.

She explained that while she deeply loves Jamie and didn’t want to criticise him, he had always dreamed of a grand celebration, and the pressure didn’t just come from him. Everyone around her reinforced the same idea — that this was what a woman should want.

Sophie admitted that expectation became overwhelming. She described how the wedding — combined with growing public attention around their podcast — turned into a spectacle that left her battling imposter syndrome, intense anxiety, and emotional burnout.

She recalled feeling confused by her own reaction, questioning why she couldn’t cope when everyone else seemed so excited for her. Eventually, the anxiety became so severe that she sought help from a therapist.

It was during those sessions that a breakthrough came. The therapist suggested she might have ADHD — something Sophie had never previously considered.

The diagnosis changed everything.

Sophie shared that learning she had ADHD helped her finally make sense of why she struggled so deeply with the chaos and pressure surrounding the wedding. She admitted she is still learning about herself, calling it “a long old process,” but now has more compassion for who she was during that time.

Looking back, she described the day as both beautiful and heartbreaking — saying it should have been the best day of her life, but instead she was overwhelmed and unable to fully enjoy it because she didn’t understand what was happening inside her.

She also revealed one of the most painful aspects — she never felt like calling off or changing the wedding was even an option. That belief, she said, is what caused her anxiety to spiral further, as she kept everything bottled up instead of speaking out.

Sophie admitted that not voicing her true feelings — that she didn’t want a huge wedding — only made things worse, leaving her feeling like something was wrong with her.

Now, with hindsight and self-awareness, she says she feels compassion for her younger self, recognising just how burnt out and overwhelmed she truly was.

And while she cherishes her marriage, Sophie has hinted at wanting a second chance — revealing she often thinks about renewing her vows in the simple, intimate way she originally dreamed of.

But in a telling moment, she joked that when she suggested the idea to Jamie, he immediately imagined turning it into another huge event — prompting her to laugh and insist: “No! That’s the point!”

Since their wedding, the couple have welcomed their son Ziggy and opened up even further about their lives in their Disney+ series Raising Chelsea.

Sophie admitted the cameras captured everything — including difficult moments — and watching it back has been confronting. She said there were times she assumed certain scenes would never be aired, only to realise later just how raw and real their journey had been.

Balancing new parenthood, work, and renovating their home pushed her to the brink, with Sophie admitting it felt like “nearly a breakdown every day.”
