Prince William left Britain’s Got Talent viewers stunned after taking a hilarious but savage swipe at Simon Cowell during a live TV moment that instantly sent fans into meltdown.
The awkwardly funny exchange unfolded during the final semi-final of the hit ITV talent show when presenters Ant and Dec revealed that judge Amanda Holden had “nearly not made it” back to the programme after becoming stranded on the Isles of Scilly.
Amanda later confirmed the chaos was true before Ant and Dec played a clip from her recent appearance on Heart Breakfast alongside co-host Jamie Theakston and none other than Prince William himself.

During the radio interview, Amanda jokingly told the future king that if helicopters were finally taking off from the island, she needed to rush back to Britain’s Got Talent filming. But she then cheekily invited William to take her place on the judging panel.
She told him: “If you’re still here we could just do it live, you could be like a fifth judge.”
Without hesitation, Prince William fired back with a brutal dig aimed directly at Simon Cowell.
“Yeah I could definitely do better than Simon,” the Prince joked.
The studio immediately erupted with laughter — while Amanda appeared to fully agree with the royal’s bold claim.
Back in the live studio, Simon looked visibly stunned as the clip played out on screen. Cameras caught the music mogul wide-eyed while Ant and Dec piled on the embarrassment by joking that Prince William was “after” Simon’s job.

Amanda then realised the situation could become slightly awkward, especially given Simon’s long-running relationship with the Royal Variety Performance.
“That’s going to be a bit awkward if he’s at the Royal Variety,” she admitted nervously.
But Simon brushed off the royal jab entirely and insisted there were no hard feelings.
“Doesn’t matter,” he shrugged.
Amanda later asked Simon whether he genuinely thought Prince William would make a good addition to the panel, and surprisingly, the music boss gave the idea his full approval.
“He would be brilliant,” Simon admitted, before adding they should actually try to make it happen.
Fans watching at home absolutely loved the unexpected royal humour and quickly flooded social media with demands for Prince William to appear on the show.
One viewer joked: “If Prince William keeps this up, he’ll be getting a place in the final of BGT.”
Another wrote: “Would actually be so good if Prince William came on and judged for the final.”
The moment instantly became one of the most talked-about highlights of the night — with many viewers praising William’s dry humour and surprisingly sharp TV banter.
