Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones are tricking viewers into thinking they’re a couple through their intimate, flirtatious behaviour. The pair have been “laughing their heads off” at the romance rumours and “using them to their advantage”

Helen Skelton and Gethin Jones are said to have laughed off the intense speculation surrounding their relationship — and according to insiders, the pair may have cleverly turned the public curiosity to their advantage.

The Morning Live co-hosts, who regularly tackle topical issues together on BBC One, were rumoured to have embarked on a romance earlier this year before whispers of a split began circulating. But when Gethin, 47, wrapped an arm around Helen, 42, on the Pride of Britain Awards red carpet in October, many viewers assumed the duo had rekindled their closeness — prompting insiders to suggest it was time for them to “come clean” about what was really going on.

A new source close to the programme, which draws in around 1.5 million viewers, has now claimed the presenters have been “playing the attention to their advantage”. The insider described the situation as “silly games”, adding that when Helen and Gethin saw rumours claiming they had grown close and “were becoming an item”, they found the entire thing “really, really funny”.

The source explained that nothing about the speculation seemed outrageous: both are single, and in their words, “it was not a long mental journey to put them together”. But instead of shutting the rumours down, the pair “used it very much to their advantage”.

Rumours of a romance first sparked in May when Helen and Gethin were spotted leaving the BAFTAs together, followed by several off-set sightings in the spring. Though neither confirmed a relationship, their playful chemistry continued to fuel curiosity — something BBC bosses reportedly aren’t unhappy about, as the extra noise has put Morning Live in rare competition with ITV’s This Morning.

“Morning Live has never been written about so much,” another insider noted, adding that the BBC is often frustrated when ITV’s This Morning dominates the conversation. The ongoing speculation has become a “perfect showmance,” one source claimed.

Gethin has been with Morning Live since the programme launched five years ago, while Helen joined in 2023, roughly a year after her split from former rugby league player Richie Myler, with whom she shares three children.

For now, the pair appear content letting the public guess — and enjoying the media frenzy that comes with it.
