Eamonn Holmes’ family have spoken out for the first time following his terrifying stroke — with his son revealing just how sudden and shocking the ordeal has been.
The veteran presenter, 66, was rushed to hospital last week after falling seriously ill, forcing him off his regular slot on GB News Breakfast. Now, his eldest son Declan Holmes has issued an emotional update on behalf of the family.

He shared that the incident came as a complete shock, but reassured fans that his father is “doing okay given the circumstances” and that the family are “taking it one step at a time” as he begins his recovery.
Declan also expressed deep gratitude for the outpouring of public support, explaining that the messages have meant a great deal to them during such a difficult moment. At the same time, he gently asked for privacy as they focus on helping Eamonn heal and navigate what comes next.
The broadcaster had been expected to return to screens this week alongside co-host Ellie Costello, but will now remain off air as he continues treatment. Fellow presenter Alex Armstrong is stepping in temporarily.
In a statement, GB News confirmed that Eamonn is responding well to treatment, adding that he has personally requested privacy while concentrating on his recovery. The network’s CEO Angelos Frangopoulos described him as a “loved member of the family” and said the entire team is supporting him every step of the way.
This latest health scare comes after a difficult few years for the TV star. Eamonn has previously undergone double hip replacement surgery and major spinal procedures, and has spoken openly about living with chronic pain and mobility issues.

Just weeks before the stroke, he made headlines with a candid and emotional admission about the industry, describing it as “ageist” and suggesting it no longer values him as it once did.
The incident also follows a recent on-air moment that sparked concern among viewers, when Eamonn appeared to struggle during a live interview. He later dismissed claims he had fallen asleep, insisting he had simply been checking a technical issue.
For now, the focus remains firmly on recovery — with his family standing close by, and fans across the country hoping to see him back on screen when he’s ready.
