Gogglebox Viewers Furious As “Disappointing” Episode Sparks Complaints: “Must Do Better”

Gogglebox viewers were left seriously unimpressed after tuning in for what they thought would be a brand-new episode — only to discover Channel 4 had aired a compilation special instead.

The long-running favourite returned on Friday night, May 29, with familiar faces including Giles Wood and Mary Killen, the Siddiqui family, and other much-loved sofa stars. But fans quickly realised the episode was not new footage, but a “best of” edition featuring memorable moments from the 2026 series.

The reaction online was swift, with many viewers taking to X to complain about the unexpected format.

“Disappointed it’s best bits. Why bother. Just end the series,” one frustrated fan wrote.

Another viewer admitted they felt let down, saying: “The disappointment of turning on #gogglebox only to find it’s a compilation of other episodes in the series… Might as well go to bed.”

Others were equally unimpressed, with one pointing out: “This episode of #gogglebox isn’t new!” while another complained: “This is a repeat, shouldn’t be too.”

One particularly annoyed fan summed up the mood, writing: “Not another compilation masquerading as a new episode, come on guys – must do better. Too much filler, not enough killer.”

Although many fans were angry, Gogglebox stars Jenny Newby and Lee Riley had already warned viewers that the series was coming to an end.

In a video shared on Instagram, Lee told fans: “Well guys, that’s it, the last of the show this evening. I hope you’ve enjoyed all 16 weeks as much as we have. Thank you for all your support through this series.”

Jenny then added: “Yeah, and we hope to see you all again in August.”

Lee also suggested that the show is expected to return near the end of August or possibly in September, meaning disappointed fans may have to wait a few months before new episodes arrive.
