Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith and her husband John Playfair had viewers laughing on This Morning as they shared the story of how they met – and John couldn’t resist cracking a cheeky joke live on air.

Joining hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary, the couple, who tied the knot in 2016, were asked how they first crossed paths. Without missing a beat, John, 77, quipped: “Geriatric Tinder,” sending the studio into fits of laughter. Prue, 85, rolled her eyes with a smile, remarking, “That’s the sort of thing he does all the time – and people sometimes take him seriously!”
Prue then clarified that they actually met at a dinner party, though she didn’t pay much attention at first. “I needed to leave, and John was chattering away… I wasn’t concentrating at all,” she admitted. But fate clearly had other plans — the very next day, John showed up at her door on a Harley Davidson trike.

From that point on, their connection deepened quickly. “We walked through the field, and then he told me all about Alexander the Great,” Prue laughed. “But honestly, it’s what’s in people’s heads that’s the most sexy. Which is just as well, because he’s not very good looking!”
The couple previously opened up about their romance on Loose Women, with John sweetly saying he “knew she was the one straight away.” Prue joked in response: “I paid him to say that.”
She also credited her husband with influencing her bold fashion sense: “He pushes me. Bigger earrings, more colour – he encourages me to go bolder.”
From Michelin-starred chef to Bake Off icon, Prue’s love story in her later years is a reminder that romance and laughter never go out of style.
