Debbie McGee has revealed the dramatic results of a non-surgical facelift that she says has completely transformed both her appearance and her confidence, admitting she now believes her skin looks better than it did decades ago.
The television personality, 67, who was married to the late magician Paul Daniels until his death in 2016, shared striking before-and-after images after undergoing a year-long course of NeoGen nitrogen plasma treatments.
Having previously avoided cosmetic procedures altogether because of her fears surrounding Botox, fillers and injectable treatments, Debbie said she finally decided to take the plunge after seeing the impressive results achieved by close friends Christine Hamilton and Strictly judge Shirley Ballas.
Rather than opting for invasive surgery, Debbie chose NeoGen, a non-surgical treatment designed to stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, improving skin texture, firmness and tone over time.
The results, she says, have exceeded every expectation.
“The biggest thing that Neogen has done for me is now I don’t wear makeup anymore. I’ve had to put some on today because there’s lots of lighting and things recording, but on a day-to-day basis.
“It’s given me a confidence in myself that I didn’t have before, because I just feel much more natural.”
Debbie explained that her original goal wasn’t to look younger but simply to remove a large brown age spot on her cheek that had bothered her for years.
“I had a great big brown age spot. It wasn’t a mole. It was two, but they kind of covered this area of my cheek, and my father had exactly the same, and they’re unsightly.
“So I always had to cover it with makeup, and if I didn’t, people would say, ‘What’s that?'”
However, once the treatments began, she noticed improvements far beyond the disappearance of the pigmentation.
“But what it actually did was more than get rid of this unsightly brown double mark that I had.
“I had lots of little freckles ’cause I was a sun worshiper when I was younger.
“They’ve all gone. So I used to look at people on TV and in photographs and think, ‘They’ve got such clear skin. Mine will never be like that because I’ve got all these tiny little brown freckles.’
“But Neogen has got rid of them all. So now I’m the proud owner of a face with clear skin at my grand old age. So it’s a wonderful treatment in so many more ways than I would’ve ever thought possible.”
Debbie said one of the biggest surprises was that her skin continued improving long after each treatment session.
“The most amazing thing about Neogen is it doesn’t just get rid of all your blemishes, but it actually affects the quality of your skin, the texture of your skin and how it looks.
“The way it promotes your own collagen is incredible, and you keep seeing it working.
“You have the treatment, you have the downtime for a little while, not long, and then over the weeks, your skin just keeps improving. I’ve never known anything that has done that.”
Looking back at old photographs, Debbie believes the treatment has left her complexion smoother than it was decades earlier.
“I’m 67, I’m not expecting my skin to be perfect, but I actually think it’s better now than it was when I was probably in my 40s because it’s so much smoother and I just love it.”
The TV favourite, who is celebrating 50 years in showbusiness ahead of the release of her autobiography A Magical Life later this year, said maintaining a natural appearance was always her biggest priority.
“One of the reasons I didn’t have any other treatments and I’ve gone for Neogen, because I didn’t want people to look at me and think, ‘She looks good. She’s had work done.’
“And we’ve all done that, looking at people. But what’s been fantastic about Neogen is all my girlfriends, and lots of guys I know, keep telling me, ‘My goodness, Debbie, you look so good.’ But they don’t say, ‘What have you had done?'”
She was equally delighted to discover improvements around her lips and jawline—areas she never expected the treatment to affect.
“I was starting to notice I was getting wrinkles on my top lip. I was so scared of going the filler route and getting dolphin lips, as I call them.
“One of the big differences that I didn’t think Neogen would help was also my top lip.
“The early picture, the first picture, you can see there’s lots and lots of tiny little wrinkles. I’ve still got some. I don’t want to get rid of them. That’s my life.
“But when I look now at what I look like, they hardly show. I also noticed a slight tightening of my jawline. The slight sagginess had improved.”
Over the course of a year, Debbie underwent six NeoGen sessions at Aspire Clinic in Reading, costing around £4,500 in total.
Although she admits the treatment represents a significant investment, Debbie believes it has been worth every penny.
“It sounds a lot but I don’t think it is, because if you consider how much I’ve saved on not buying foundation for a year…
“It won’t take me long to have got up to what one treatment cost me, and I don’t need to wear the makeup anymore, or your moisturizers, and this is far better than spending on some expensive moisturizers.
“I’ve been there, I’ve done it, so that’s my experience.”
