TV personality Carol McGiffin has made a brutally honest admission about her first marriage — revealing she now regrets tying the knot with Chris Evans and, shockingly, “didn’t like him” for much of their relationship.
The former Loose Women star, now 66, was married to the high-profile DJ between 1991 and 1998. But speaking candidly in a recent interview, Carol confessed that even she can’t fully explain why they got married in the first place.

She admitted that by the end of the relationship, she had already emotionally checked out, saying she no longer wanted to be married and didn’t even feel strongly enough to confront suspicions about his alleged infidelity. Reflecting on that time, she explained that although she never excused bad behaviour, she had spent most of her life single — and only one past relationship made her believe cheating had definitely happened.
Opening up further on the Suddenly Single podcast, Carol described the marriage as “a big mistake,” adding that whatever Chris may have been doing behind her back, she didn’t care anymore because her feelings had already faded. She revealed that for a significant period, she simply didn’t like him, and ultimately questioned the entire foundation of their union.
The couple separated after just two years, although their divorce was finalised much later in 1998.

This isn’t the first time Carol has spoken critically about her ex-husband. In previous interviews, she labelled him “manipulative” and insisted she had been swept up in the relationship at the time, convincing herself she couldn’t live without him.
She once said their marriage “wasn’t a good idea,” explaining that she had been determined to make it work despite clear issues. At one point, she even claimed he was “nothing without her” — dismissing suggestions she married him for financial reasons, stating she had more money than him at the time.
Looking back even further, Carol described how the relationship transformed her into someone she barely recognised, admitting she became overly dependent and lost her sense of self. She likened Chris to an addiction, recalling how she was drawn to his confidence and charisma when they first met in the late 1980s.
However, she also painted a picture of constant arguments and incompatibility, recalling petty rows that escalated dramatically — including one bizarre fight over deodorant that ended with items being thrown across the room.
Despite the painful memories, Carol has since found happiness, marrying Mark Cassidy in 2018 in a private ceremony in Thailand.
Meanwhile, Chris Evans went on to marry Billie Piper after a whirlwind romance, before later settling down with Natasha Shishmanian, with whom he now shares a family.
