Darren Day proved nothing could dull his joy this Easter as he proudly stepped out clutching a tiny babygrow for his newborn grandson—just hours after a painful trip to A&E left him with multiple injuries.
The 57-year-old stage star, who recently became a grandfather for the first time, looked every inch the proud family man as he arrived at the theatre ready to perform in his latest pantomime. His glowing mood came despite a dramatic hospital dash days earlier after he injured his arm.

Earlier this week, Darren and his ex-partner Susanne Shaw confirmed their son Corey had welcomed a baby boy with girlfriend Erin. The newborn, named Colton, marks a fresh chapter for the former couple—who once had a turbulent past but are now united in celebration.
But the joyful milestone was quickly followed by a scare. On Friday, Darren rushed to A&E with what he initially feared were broken bones, revealing he was sitting in hospital with just over an hour to go before stepping on stage.

By Sunday, he confirmed the extent of his injuries, sharing that he had suffered a broken wrist, a fractured scaphoid, and a chipped bone in his elbow, admitting it had been “painful” but thanking fans for their supportive messages as he adjusted to life as a new grandad.
Despite the setback, Darren refused to slow down. He returned to the stage as Demon Vanity in the touring production of Mother Goose, alongside Helen Flanagan and Basil Brush, determined to carry on with the show.

His co-star Helen even praised his resilience, writing that he was “the best” and sending her love after his injury ordeal.
The actor’s determination comes as his personal life enters a surprisingly emotional new era. Just days before his hospital dash, he and Susanne shared a touching moment as they reunited to celebrate baby Colton’s arrival—posing together with their grandson in a rare show of unity.
Their history has been anything but smooth. The pair’s relationship famously began during a controversial affair in 2003, and their split in 2005—when Darren walked out while Susanne was battling postnatal depression—left lasting headlines.

Yet now, years later, the former couple appear to have put the past behind them, coming together for their growing family.
Darren even joked about their new roles, saying he was definitely old enough to be a grandad—unlike Susanne—while declaring how much he already adored baby Colton.
From hospital beds to standing ovations—and now cradling the next generation—Darren Day’s whirlwind week has been one of pain, pride, and a powerful new beginning.
