Barbara Windsor’s Heartbreaking Apology to Husband Scott After Alzheimer’s Diagnosis: ‘I’m So Sorry’

The late EastEnders legend Barbara Windsor once made a heart-wrenching apology to her husband Scott Mitchell moments after learning she had Alzheimer’s — a moment that has now been recalled on Loose Women.

Barbara, best known for playing Peggy Mitchell on the BBC soap, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014 but kept her condition private until 2018. She later moved into a care home in August 2020 and sadly passed away that December at the age of 83.

During an emotional segment on Loose Women aired February 20, panelist Jane Moore, who was a close friend of Barbara’s, shared the intimate moment Barbara turned to Scott after hearing the devastating news: “The first thing she said to him was, ‘I’m so sorry.’”

Jane explained that Barbara, still very much aware at the time, instantly recognised the heavy burden her illness would place on Scott. “She didn’t think about herself. She thought about him,” Jane said, holding back tears as she spoke to co-host Nadia Sawalha.

Barbara and Scott married in 2000 and remained deeply devoted to one another throughout her battle with the disease. Their home was fully adapted to accommodate her needs, and Scott remained by her side through every challenge.

Since Barbara’s passing, Scott has raised over £160,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK. He ran the London Marathon in her honour in 2021, wearing a shirt with Barbara’s photo on it. He also became an ambassador for the charity that same year, continuing her legacy with unwavering commitment.
