A new generation of wizards is ready to cast their spells on screen. HBO has officially unveiled the fresh trio of young actors who will lead its highly anticipated Harry Potter TV reboot — and the actor taking on the role of the Boy Who Lived is already familiar to British viewers.

Dominic McLaughlin, who stars in the upcoming BBC children’s series Gifted, has been cast as Harry Potter. He will be joined by Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
Although all three are newcomers to the big stage, Dominic is no stranger to cameras. Aside from his role in Gifted, which follows superpowered Scottish teens in Edinburgh, he is also set to appear in the fantasy film Grow, alongside big names like Golda Rosheuvel, Jeremy Swift, Nick Frost, and Joe Wilkinson.
Arabella, meanwhile, brings stage credentials with her, having previously starred as Matilda in the West End. Alastair’s casting as Ron Weasley comes after a single appearance in an advert for a potato brand — but producers believe his charm is perfect for the role.

The show’s executive producers Francesca Gardiner and Mark Mylod described the casting process as “extraordinary” and praised the talent of their young leads. “We can’t wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen,” they said.
In an exciting twist, veteran actor John Lithgow will become the first American to portray Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter universe, joining a starry supporting cast that includes Nick Frost as Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Snape, and Janet McTeer as Professor McGonagall.
Set to be a faithful retelling of J.K. Rowling’s beloved novels, the new series promises a fresh chapter for longtime fans and new viewers alike — with each season focusing on one book in the saga.
