Kate Garraway has reportedly been forced to sell her second home amid the mounting financial pressure following her husband Derek Draper’s tragic death. The Good Morning Britain presenter is said to be battling debts ranging between £600,000 and £800,000, a large part of which stems from the staggering costs of Derek’s care during his four-year health crisis.

The 58-year-old star sold a flat in North London for £1.5 million, but sources revealed it was heavily mortgaged. The sale wasn’t part of any planned investment strategy — it was, in fact, a last resort. A source close to Kate said, “She always saw the property as a long-term safety net but had no choice but to let it go.”
Kate had purchased the flat long before meeting Derek, intending it to provide financial security. But after her husband died in early 2024 at age 56, following a debilitating battle with long Covid, she found herself confronting immense financial burdens.

Caring for Derek had cost Kate around £16,000 per month — reportedly more than her ITV salary — as she fought to keep him alive with full-time carers and private medical support. According to friends, she is now seriously considering selling her main five-bedroom family home too.
“She has done everything she can,” a source shared. “But the financial strain is enormous. That flat was supposed to be her cushion. Now it’s gone.”
