Trevor Green, the beloved veteran ITV newsreader, has died at the age of 74 — on the very morning of his birthday. His wife Joanna confirmed the heartbreaking news in a touching statement, revealing he passed away peacefully after developing breathing problems the night before.
“Trevor slipped away peacefully this morning, in the early hours of his 74th birthday,” Joanna wrote on Facebook via Piccadilly Radio. “We’ve had precious time over recent months to talk, reminisce, and prepare. I’ve lost my soulmate and feel at sea — but he’s no longer in pain.”

Green, best known for his nearly two-decade-long role on Granada Reports, was a trusted face in regional broadcasting, especially across the North West of England. His warm presence made him a household name, and his influence extended beyond television into radio and later, media consultancy.
After stepping away from TV in 2006, Trevor focused on his business, Vision Impact, and took on a role as media relations officer for Cheshire East Council, applying his communications skills in public service.

Tributes have poured in from colleagues and fans alike. Chris Moore, who worked with Green at Piccadilly Radio, called him “a gem” and praised his wit, professionalism, and the inspiring way he and his wife faced his illness together. “His marriage to Jo was something special,” Moore added. “Those who knew him will have their own treasured memories.”
Trevor’s legacy spans decades of journalism and public service — a golden voice of a golden era, now silenced but not forgotten.
