Prince Louis, 8, steals the spotlight on the Buckingham Palace balcony with his reactions to the Trooping the Colour flypast – while Prince George’s impressive height leaves royal fans astonished

Prince Louis once again became the centre of attention during Trooping the Colour as the eight-year-old delighted royal fans with a series of animated reactions during the RAF flypast over Buckingham Palace.

While the youngest child of the Prince and Princess of Wales appeared composed during the carriage procession earlier in the day, his famously playful personality shone through once the Royal Family gathered on the palace balcony to watch the spectacular aerial display marking King Charles III’s official birthday celebrations.

Photographs captured Louis leaning dramatically to one side in an effort to catch a better view of the Red Arrows, his mouth wide open in amazement. In another amusing moment, the young royal was seen sticking out his tongue as aircraft soared overhead, prompting smiles from onlookers.

Known for his cheeky behaviour at royal occasions, Louis also flashed his signature gap-toothed grin and was spotted adjusting his tie while enthusiastically taking in the celebrations.

As fans enjoyed Louis’ unfiltered reactions, many also noticed how much his older brother Prince George has grown. The 12-year-old future king appeared strikingly tall and is already beginning to rival the height of his parents, Prince William and Princess Catherine.

George, who is due to start secondary school in September, looked increasingly mature as he confidently waved to crowds gathered along The Mall. He was also seen sharing light-hearted moments with his younger sister Princess Charlotte and exchanging smiles with his mother.

The three Wales children joined King Charles III, Queen Camilla, the Prince and Princess of Wales and other senior royals for the annual celebration, which remains one of the highlights of the royal calendar.

Also appearing on the balcony were Princess Anne and her husband Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester and Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, who made a rare appearance after missing the carriage procession.

In keeping with King Charles’s vision for a slimmed-down monarchy, the balcony line-up has become increasingly selective in recent years, featuring only working royals and the Wales children.

Earlier in the day, Princess Catherine looked elegant in a pale blue and white Catherine Walker coat dress paired with a matching Philip Treacy hat. Prince George and Prince Louis complemented their mother’s ensemble with ties in the same shade of blue, while Princess Charlotte wore a cream dress featuring subtle blue accents.

Meanwhile, Prince William rode on horseback in the Full Ceremonial Order of the Welsh Guards, accompanied by Princess Anne and the Duke of Edinburgh.

The colour being trooped this year was the King’s Colour of the Grenadier Guards. Ahead of the ceremony, Charles visited the regiment and praised their dedication.

He told the company: “Since Easter you’ve been practising rigidly and I can hear from Buckingham Palace the sound of the drums thumping away regularly so I know you’re all marching up and down trying to get ready for the parade.”

As always, however, it was Prince Louis who managed to steal the spotlight, proving once again why his spontaneous expressions have become one of the most beloved features of royal events.
