“I Just Want Some Hair”: Melanie Sykes’ Heartbreaking Confession As Her Hair Falls Out “Really Quickly” — With The Condition Still Feeling “Alarming” Even After A Year And A Half

Melanie Sykes has revealed she has started wearing wigs after her hair began falling out “really quickly” amid her ongoing battle with alopecia.

The 55-year-old presenter, who has been open about her autoimmune condition, told fans she has been losing hair for around a year and a half and admitted the latest stage of her journey has felt frightening.

Sharing an update after trying on wigs, Melanie wrote: “I cannot believe it’s been two weeks since I sat in this chair and tried out some wigs.”

She added: “I can’t tell you how excited I am to receive it. My hair has been coming out really quickly in the last few weeks and even at this stage — I’ve been losing hair for about a year and half — it can feel alarming.”

Although Melanie said she still loves wearing head scarves, she admitted she is now ready for another option, adding: “As much as I love using my head scarves, I cannot wait to get some hair.”

Fans quickly rallied around her, praising her honesty and courage. One wrote: “Great to see you smiling Mel x.”

Another shared their own struggle with alopecia, saying: “I need to brave the wig. Never in a million years did I think I would ever suffer with alopecia. Wigs look amazing.”

When one supporter told her she looked fantastic and that no one would know it was a wig, Melanie made clear the decision was deeply personal.

She replied: “Me getting a wig has nothing to do with other people’s perceptions of me, or how it looks to them. It is purely for me, my life and having options.”

Melanie first spoke publicly about her condition at the end of 2025, telling followers: “I’ve got an autoimmune condition, I am losing my hair, I keep having crazy inflammation all over and I am working on healing.”

She also revealed she had been living a more spiritual life while dealing with her health struggles, saying: “Mostly I’ve been living a very, very very spiritual existence.”
