After more than two decades fronting Strictly Come Dancing, Tess Daly is said to be stepping into a bold new phase of life — and marriage — with husband Vernon Kay.
The 57-year-old presenter, who has been a familiar face on British television for 21 years, reportedly wants to embrace what insiders are calling a “grown-up gap year” — a chance to finally put herself first after decades of work.

Tess and Vernon, who married in 2003 and share two daughters, Phoebe, 21, and Amber, 16, are believed to be planning extended travel together before she turns 60. According to a source, Tess feels she has “missed out” on seeing the world after starting her career as a teenager and is now eager to make up for lost time.
“She is desperate to have a grown-up gap year and see the world with Vernon as she wants to do it while they still can,” the insider explained. “Vernon could take some time off and they could just do everything they’ve ever wanted to do and enjoy what they’ve worked for.”
However, their plans may not be entirely carefree. Vernon, who currently hosts a mid-morning show on BBC Radio 2, is reportedly keen to balance work with travel — suggesting shorter trips rather than a full year away.

Still, those close to the couple believe the shift could be transformative. “It would be the first time in a long while that they will get to spend quality time together just the two of them with no responsibilities. It would be a new chapter in their marriage,” the source added.
After years of prioritising family and career, Tess is said to be ready to focus on herself for once. “She has always put Vernon and the girls first, and now she wants to be a bit selfish and make the most of her freedom,” the insider shared.
The couple recently offered a glimpse into their family life when Vernon posted a photo enjoying sunset drinks in London with their eldest daughter Phoebe, who is currently based in New York. Tess also shared her own glamorous rooftop moment, hinting at a more relaxed, celebratory chapter ahead.

The shift comes as Vernon has spoken openly about their evolving family dynamic, admitting that as their daughters grow older, their roles as parents are changing. He revealed that both he and Tess have always encouraged their children to build their own paths, insisting they must “go out and graft” rather than rely on their parents’ fame.
As Tess steps away from one of television’s biggest shows, it seems she is finally ready to reclaim something she feels she lost — time, freedom, and perhaps a renewed sense of self.
