Holly Willoughby was once considered the perfect candidate to step into the glamorous world of Strictly Come Dancing as a replacement for long-time hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman. With her polished presenting style, huge fanbase, and years of live TV experience, many believed the former This Morning star was the obvious choice for the BBC’s biggest entertainment show.
Alongside names like Alison Hammond, Angela Scanlon and Alan Carr, Holly quickly emerged as one of the leading contenders to front the beloved ballroom competition. But behind the scenes, things appear to have taken a dramatic turn.

According to insiders, Holly’s close professional history with former co-host Phillip Schofield is now reportedly causing concern among BBC executives. While Holly herself was never implicated in Schofield’s scandal, the lingering association is said to be making some decision-makers nervous at a time when Strictly is already trying to distance itself from controversy.
A source reportedly claimed: “Holly is seen as squeaky clean, but the shadow of Phillip is impossible to ignore. Some execs worry that her connection to him would bring unnecessary drama, especially after a string of scandals plaguing the show.”
The situation marks yet another difficult chapter in Holly’s turbulent few years. In October 2023, the presenter stepped away from This Morning after learning of an alleged plot to kidnap and murder her. The terrifying ordeal left Holly deeply shaken and led her to retreat from the spotlight for a period of recovery.
At the same time, her once-close friendship with Phillip Schofield collapsed publicly after his admission to an affair with a much younger male colleague. Reports later claimed Holly had privately given ITV an ultimatum over Schofield’s future at the network, although she continued to publicly thank him for their years working together.

In her emotional statement at the time, Holly said: “It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil, and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience, and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him.”
However, sources later suggested Holly felt “shaken, troubled, and let down” after discovering details surrounding the scandal.
Now, despite the excitement that initially surrounded her potential Strictly appointment, insiders claim the BBC may be moving in another direction altogether.
One source explained: “Strictly has already weathered enough scandals. The last thing they need is more attention on a past connection with Phillip. They want to avoid any unnecessary drama.”

Although no final decision has officially been announced, speculation is continuing to grow that Holly’s hopes of landing one of television’s most coveted presenting jobs could now be fading away.
Still, fans remain convinced Holly’s television career is far from over. Whether it’s a dramatic comeback or an entirely new chapter, many believe the presenter still has plenty left to prove.
