Zoe Ball heartbreakingly reveals her 16-year-old daughter Nelly has been diagnosed with ADHD, becoming the third member of the family to receive the diagnosis after her and son Woody: “She Lives in Chaos… But She’s Learning”

Zoe Ball has opened up about a deeply personal chapter in her family life, revealing that her 16-year-old daughter Nelly has been diagnosed with ADHD — making her the third member of the household to live with the condition.

The 55-year-old radio star, who shares Nelly and her son Woody with her ex-husband Norman Cook, said the diagnosis has brought both challenges and clarity to their family dynamic.

Zoe, who herself was diagnosed in 2023, explained that understanding her children’s experiences has helped her better understand her own. She admitted she often talks openly about ADHD, saying that learning how her children cope has given her insight into her own behaviour.

Speaking candidly, she described how her daughter sometimes struggles with everyday organisation, with her room often descending into chaos — something Zoe now recognises through a more compassionate lens. She shared that Nelly has recently developed a routine, setting aside time every Sunday evening to tidy her space, prepare for school, and reset for the week ahead — a small but powerful step that has made a noticeable difference.

Zoe said she has loved watching her daughter find her own way, adding that moments of order can feel incredibly grounding amid the chaos, something she has also tried to apply in her own life.

Nelly is now on medication to help manage her symptoms at school, marking an important stage in her journey.

The revelation comes after Zoe previously shared her own diagnosis, while her son Woody Cook has also spoken publicly about how ADHD has shaped his career in music.

Woody, who made his debut at Glastonbury Festival, has described the condition as his “unique selling point” as a DJ, explaining that his high-energy presence behind the decks sets him apart.

He said that having ADHD has contributed to his style, noting that he has always been someone who moves around a lot, and that embracing that energy allows the audience to feel it too.

Woody even revealed he once considered calling himself “Monkey Man” as a DJ, before realising that leaning into his natural personality was what made him stand out.

Despite being the son of one of the UK’s most iconic DJs, he insisted his father never formally taught him, instead offering life advice that shaped his mindset. He recalled being told that he might not be the best DJ, but he could be the most unique — and that standing out is what truly matters in the industry.

Zoe and Norman, who split in 2016 after 18 years of marriage, have remained close and continue to co-parent their children. The former couple even reunited over Christmas, joking about “putting the funk into dysfunctional” as they celebrated together as a family.

Earlier this year, Zoe marked Nelly’s 16th birthday with a series of heartfelt throwback photos, sharing her love for her daughter in a touching tribute that highlighted their close bond.
