Eamonn Holmes has spoken publicly for the first time since suffering a shocking stroke, sharing a deeply emotional message inspired by his family as he begins his road to recovery.
The 66-year-old GB News presenter was rushed to hospital earlier this week after suddenly falling ill, with doctors later confirming he had experienced a stroke. Despite the frightening ordeal, updates from both his family and workplace suggest he is now responding well to treatment.

Taking to Instagram on Sunday, Eamonn posted a heart-melting photo of his two granddaughters holding handmade “get well soon” signs — a moment that clearly struck a powerful emotional chord.
Reflecting on their message, he told fans: as my beautiful granddaughters put it so well, I will do my best to get well soon. He also added that the overwhelming support from the public has given him strength, thanking followers for their “many, many good wishes.”
Just hours before his post, his son Declan had shared a candid update, revealing the health scare had come as a “real shock” to the family. He explained that while the situation was unexpected, his father is doing okay given the circumstances, and the family is taking things one step at a time while focusing fully on his recovery.
Declan also asked for privacy as they navigate what lies ahead, but emphasised how much the support from fans has meant to them all.
Eamonn had been due to return to GB News Breakfast this week alongside co-host Ellie Costello, but will now be temporarily replaced by Alex Armstrong as he continues to recover.

A spokesperson for GB News confirmed the seriousness of the situation, stating that Eamonn had been taken ill and later diagnosed with a stroke, but is currently responding well to treatment. They added that he has requested privacy while he focuses on getting better.
GB News CEO Angelos Frangopoulos also expressed his support, describing Eamonn as a beloved member of the team and assuring that the network stands by him throughout his recovery.
The health scare comes after a series of ongoing medical struggles for the presenter. Over the years, Eamonn has undergone major procedures including a double hip replacement, spinal surgery, and treatment for multiple back issues — challenges that have left him using a wheelchair in recent times.
He has also previously spoken out about feeling sidelined in the TV industry due to his age and health, describing it as “ageist” and claiming the industry “doesn’t want to know him” anymore.
Despite recent concerns — including a moment last month when viewers thought he had fallen asleep live on air, which he later firmly denied — Eamonn now faces what may be one of his toughest battles yet.
But with the support of his family, and especially the heartfelt message from his granddaughters, he appears determined to fight his way back.
