Lesley Joseph has shared an emotional update on Pauline Quirke’s health, and it has left Birds of a Feather fans heartbroken.
Speaking at the Variety Club Showbusiness Awards, Lesley, 80, opened up about her longtime friend and former co-star with obvious emotion as she revealed that Pauline, 65, is currently “not too well” after being diagnosed with dementia in 2021.

Lesley admitted the situation has been incredibly painful, saying: “I miss her so much. I’m planning to visit her soon. She’s been such a huge part of my life — of all our lives — and I just want to see her smile again.”
Her words struck a deep chord with fans, many of whom still remember the extraordinary chemistry Lesley and Pauline shared on Birds of a Feather. Their warmth, humour and effortless connection on screen reflected a friendship that had lasted for decades behind the scenes too.
The update also comes after Linda Robson previously spoke movingly about Pauline’s condition. Linda revealed that although Pauline still has some “up days”, it was an emotional moment when she asked about her “mate Linda”, offering a small but touching glimmer of hope amid the sadness surrounding her illness.

For viewers, Birds of a Feather was never just a sitcom. It became a cherished part of British television, built on laughter, loyalty and the bond between three women whose friendship felt real because it was real.
Earlier this year, Pauline’s husband Steve Sheen confirmed her dementia diagnosis, bringing an end to months of speculation over why she had stepped away from public life. Since then, her family have chosen to keep her journey private, focusing on her care and comfort away from the spotlight.

Fans have continued to pour out love for Pauline, describing her as a “national treasure” and praising the joy, warmth and laughter she brought to generations of viewers.
Lesley’s emotional words have served as a painful reminder of just how deeply Pauline is loved. Even as she faces an intensely difficult health battle, the affection for her remains overwhelming — and so does the heartbreak felt by those who have admired her for so many years.
