Eamonn Holmes put on a brave face as he appeared at a star-studded Cancer Research event in London, posing in his wheelchair alongside the ever-glamorous Elizabeth Hurley — but behind the smile lies a deeply challenging reality.
The veteran broadcaster, 66, attended the Turn The Tables 2026 charity evening at The Corinthia Hotel, looking sharp in a navy suit, crisp white shirt and patterned tie. Despite years of serious health setbacks, he was seen raising a glass and smiling for photos, determined to stay present in the spotlight.

Standing beside him, Elizabeth Hurley, 60, turned heads in a striking burgundy dress featuring a daring thigh-high slit and plunging neckline, adding a touch of Hollywood glamour to the meaningful evening hosted by Tania Bryer and James Landale.
But while the red carpet moment painted a picture of resilience, Eamonn has recently opened up about the harsh truth of his daily life — and it’s far from easy.
Speaking candidly on Scott Wright’s Session7 podcast, he admitted: “I don’t know what the future holds. Society’s ageist, I’m sick, I’m in a wheelchair — that’s been horrendous to deal with for two years.”

He went on to reveal just how dependent he has become following major spinal surgery and ongoing health complications. “I can’t get up. I need help getting out of this chair. I have to have carers throughout the day,” he shared, before adding that once seated, he can still perform his job and understands his role.
His emotional admission also touched on the wider challenges faced by disabled people, describing everyday experiences as frustrating and isolating. He pointed out how venues often fail to accommodate wheelchair users properly, saying trips to the cinema leave him with only two extreme seating options — right at the front or far at the back — questioning why accessibility still feels like an afterthought.

The appearance comes just days after viewers expressed concern when Eamonn appeared to struggle during a live GB News broadcast, with reports suggesting he briefly fell asleep and slurred his words on air. A source claimed the incident sparked a wave of messages from worried fans who noticed he seemed to be “struggling a lot more lately.”
Despite everything, Eamonn’s presence at the charity event — smiling, socialising and showing up — sends a powerful message of perseverance. Yet his own words make it clear: behind the public appearances is a man quietly battling a daily reality few truly see.
