Michelle Keegan Speaks Out About Her Strict Mother-in-Law Carol Wright as ‘Tensions’ Rise — While Sharing Sweet Moments from Daughter Palma’s Lavish First Birthday Party

Michelle Keegan has offered fans a heart-melting glimpse into the lavish first birthday celebrations for her daughter Palma, sharing sweet snapshots from the glamorous event just days after rumours swirled about supposed tension with her mother-in-law Carol Wright.

The former Coronation Street star, 38, took to Instagram on Saturday to post a series of charming images from the milestone party, revealing the beautifully styled celebration she and husband Mark Wright organised for their little girl.

The couple enlisted the help of high-end event planners Luxe Events And Parties to create the picture-perfect occasion, transforming their Essex home into a pastel-themed wonderland filled with bows, balloons and playful décor.

Reflecting on how quickly the past year had flown by, Michelle wrote alongside the photos: Can I ask where the past years gone please?

The party was nothing short of magical. Palma’s adorable outfits for the day were carefully displayed on hangers, while soft toys and decorations filled the family’s lavish Essex mansion. Posters dotted around the house read the sweet phrase: “Isn’t she lovely, isn’t she onederful.”

Guests were treated to an array of beautifully presented treats, including white chocolate cake pops decorated with pink bows, a two-tier cake, pastel biscuits and rows of pink-and-white cupcakes. There were also cocktails for the adults attending the celebration.

The party’s pastel-and-bows theme extended outdoors, where children could enjoy a soft play area, a balloon-filled inflatable and even a bouncy castle beside a stylish tepee.

The cheerful birthday updates come shortly after speculation about tension within the Wright family began circulating online.

Earlier this week, Michelle posted a cosy selfie alongside her own mother Jacqueline and baby Palma as they wore matching pyjamas from her Very UK clothing collection ahead of Mother’s Day.

She captioned the photo: “2 mummy’s and a baby. How cuuuuute are these pjs from my @veryuk collection??? Perfect for Mother’s Day to match all the generations.”

However, rumours had begun spreading that Carol Wright had been making subtle digs at Michelle following comments she made on the Wright At Home podcast, which she hosts with daughters Jess and Natalya.

During the episode, Carol criticised thong bikinis, saying she finds them “gross and unattractive.” The remarks sparked fierce backlash online, with many listeners branding the conversation degrading and disrespectful.

The controversy intensified when critics suggested the comments may have been indirectly aimed at Michelle, who runs her own Orfila Bee swimwear brand and regularly shares bikini photos on Instagram.

One source told The Sun: “To put it bluntly, Carol is the textbook mother-in-law from hell. She is completely obsessed with her sons and is your stereotypical possessive boy mum.

“The tension between Carol and Michelle is very subtle. Carol thinks she’s having a subtle dig, but Michelle sees straight through her, and everything is noted.”

Despite the speculation, representatives have strongly denied any rift, insisting that Carol and Michelle share a close and supportive relationship.

Meanwhile, Jess and Natalya have since apologised for the controversial discussion, and the podcast clip was quickly removed from their social media channels.

Even so, the segment spread rapidly on TikTok, where users criticised the Wright family’s remarks and pointed out what they saw as hypocrisy, sharing old photos of Jess wearing similar bikinis herself.

For Michelle, however, the focus appears firmly on family joy. And judging by the pastel balloons, sweet treats and smiling snapshots, little Palma’s first birthday was nothing short of unforgettable.
