After three failed embryo transfers and two heartbreaking miscarriages, Liz McClarnon thought motherhood wasn’t meant for her — until a quiet December changed everything. Now, at 44, she’s glowing with cautious hope

Liz McClarnon-Cho, former Atomic Kitten singer, is expecting her first child at the age of 44 after an emotional and physically exhausting IVF journey. In an exclusive interview, she opens up about her heartbreak following two miscarriages and the overwhelming joy of finally getting pregnant.

Living in London with her doctor husband Peter Cho, Liz admits she’s still “petrified” of what lies ahead but says she’s “loving life” again. The pregnancy announcement she shared on social media quickly went viral, amassing half a million views. “I honestly didn’t think people would care. I was just quietly getting on with my life,” she shared.

Liz and Peter met during the pandemic via a dating app, and their whirlwind romance quickly turned into a solid partnership. They began IVF early in their relationship due to Liz’s age, but their first three embryo transfers failed. The third loss, in particular, left her in a “dark hole,” dealing with physical side effects and online body-shaming.

She recalls how hard it was to keep the IVF struggles private, especially when her body changed but she didn’t want to explain why. After a break from treatment, two more miscarriages followed in late 2024 — and Liz says she was ready to give up. “I felt broken, and Peter just said, ‘This is your body. I support whatever you decide.’”

Despite all this, Liz is now firmly into her second trimester and cautiously optimistic. She’s taking precautions due to her high-risk pregnancy, including blood-thinning injections and pre-eclampsia monitoring. And though she jokes about her knees hurting already, she’s full of gratitude. “It’s happened for other women older than me — we’ll just get on with it!”
