For more than three decades, Danniella Westbrook’s life has played out in the glare of the spotlight — from teenage soap stardom to a harrowing battle with addiction, and now a relentless mission to reconstruct not just her face, but her confidence.
The former EastEnders actress, 52, first shot to fame as Sam Mitchell on the BBC One soap at just 16. But behind the scenes, her life spiralled. Hooked on drugs by the age of 14, she later admitted that at the height of her addiction she was taking up to five grams of cocaine a day, reportedly spending close to £250,000 on the habit.
Years of substance abuse left devastating physical consequences. Her septum collapsed, her facial bones deteriorated, and she was left facing a long and painful road to reconstruction.

A Fresh Operation — And Another Long Recovery
This week, Danniella revealed she had once again gone under the knife, undergoing a full face, neck and brow lift alongside further lip and nose reconstruction. Photographs showed her in a hospital gown awaiting surgery, marking yet another chapter in her ongoing transformation.
The procedure was carried out by her trusted surgeon, Dr Parviz Sadigh, who has operated on her before. Last month, she publicly thanked him, writing that she had “a massive amount of love and respect” for the medic and adding: “Everyday I grow and glow xxxx thank you and roll on Feb for the next operation.”
A full recovery from such extensive facial surgery can take up to nine months — but for Danniella, it’s a price she appears willing to pay.

The Near-Death Ordeal That Changed Everything
Her journey has been far from smooth. In 2015, she nearly died following a botched surgical procedure. Severe facial bone degradation — which she attributes to osteoporosis — left her requiring extensive reconstruction.
At one stage, her cheekbones “wasted away,” leaving screws where her teeth should have been. She now wears a full denture that sits against the roof of her mouth.
Speaking candidly in 2018, she revealed: “They need to take a piece of bone out of my skull and put a plate into my face but they’ve got nothing to stick the plate on at the minute because the bone’s not strong enough.”
During her stint on Celebrity Big Brother in 2016, she was rushed out of the house multiple times for emergency dental work. “The bone hadn’t closed around the screws so they took me out of the house three times to a dentist… because the pain was so bad,” she said.
Complications saw her hospitalised for seven weeks, during which she developed septicaemia. “I did nearly die,” she admitted. “They took all my teeth out again and gave me this denture which has broken my heart because I didn’t need all of my teeth out in the first place.”

‘I Hate the Way I Look’
In 2022, Danniella spoke openly about the emotional toll her appearance had taken. “I hate the way I look. I’m constantly made fun of, and trolled for it,” she said, revealing the cruel messages she receives online, including people telling her she should “just go and kill yourself.”
Yet she insisted her decision to undergo further surgery was about reclaiming her happiness. “I’ve got to a point where looking like this upsets me, so I’m going to make a change — not because of what others think but so I can be happy with the way I am.”
Turkey Surgery Horror — and ICU Fears
In 2023, she travelled to Turkey for a thread lift, liposuction to her cheeks and lips, and fat grafting to her chin and jawline. Graphic post-surgery images showed her bruised and swollen — and she later compared her appearance to having gone “10 rounds with Tyson Fury.”
She admitted she was “very fearful” before the procedure, even writing a will. “My mum and my son Kai were on the phone constantly — I wrote up a will before I left and my son is the executor of that,” she said.
Although she initially said she was “already happy with the results,” she later confessed regret. A surgical thread lift involving more than 1,200 threads left her in agony. Because of her past addiction, she cannot take codeine-based painkillers, meaning she endured severe post-operative pain.
Describing the aftermath, she said large lumps of fluid formed across her stomach, adding: “It’s ruined my body. It’s going to take a lot of work to get it back to how I was.”

Seven Boob Jobs and Counting
Facial surgery isn’t the only area where Danniella has sought transformation. She has admitted to at least seven breast augmentations, increasing from a 34B to a 34DD over the years. Appearing on Celebrity Botched Up Bodies, she confessed she ignored her surgeon’s warnings because she wanted “huge footballs.”
Rebuilding More Than a Face
Now sober and determined, Danniella says her surgeries are about reclaiming her life. In June 2025, as she prepared for another “very long surgery” to rebuild her face, she told fans it was a “big day” and said she hoped it would allow her to “get back to work and we can get on with our life.”
For Danniella Westbrook, the scars — physical and emotional — tell a story of excess, survival and resilience. And as she once again places her trust in the operating theatre, her “nightmare” journey continues — driven by a desire not just to look different, but to finally feel whole.
