Before He Could Deal With His Seafood Allergy, Vernon Kay Was Nationally Diagnosed With Something Worse

TV and radio presenter Vernon Kay has opened up about a recent health concern, admitting he’s been feeling “terrible” and may be facing more than he originally thought.

Speaking on his BBC Radio 2 show, the 51-year-old star confessed to feeling “a bit ropey,” before revealing his seafood allergy has been flaring up. “I’m sure I’ve eaten a prawn or a cockle,” Vernon said, adding that he’s allergic to cockles and other small shellfish.

While he initially brushed it off, Vernon revealed he might need to undergo fresh tests. “I did a test ages ago,” he explained, “but now I talk about it on air and listeners think I might be lactose intolerant too. I’ve basically been diagnosed by the nation!”

Thankfully, he won’t face this alone. His wife, Tess Daly, famous for her role on Strictly Come Dancing, has pledged to support him—and even plans to take a health test herself.

The couple’s light-hearted bond also surfaced during Tess’s recent podcast interview, where she jokingly described their mini “battles” in the home gym. “He’s so knowledgeable,” Tess laughed. “But sometimes, I just want to do my own thing!”

With a supportive partner by his side and a new round of tests on the horizon, Vernon is tackling his health concerns with honesty, humour, and a little help from Tess.
