“I nearly divorced her” – Jamie Laing admits he had up to 10,000 rows with his pregnant wife Sophie Habboo while renovating their £12million home ahead of their first baby’s arrival

Jamie Laing has poked fun at the chaos of renovating a home with a pregnant wife, admitting he and Sophie Habboo “nearly divorced” during the 14-month project on their £12million Notting Hill townhouse.

The Made In Chelsea star, 36, shared a playful Instagram video showing off their newly completed home, joking that while people say house renovations bring couples closer together, for him and Sophie it was “10,000 arguments and nearly divorced later.” He celebrated with a cheeky dance in their gleaming new bathroom, adding: “Doing a victory dance because we didn’t get divorced.”

The couple, who tied the knot in a lavish Spanish wedding in 2023, bought the semi-detached property last year for £4.1million before pouring money into a huge transformation overseen by interior designer Jojo Barr of House Nine. Now, it boasts a Mediterranean-style kitchen with a sprawling marble island, a terraced garden, and a stylish living room adorned with family photos.

Jamie’s favourite indulgence is a fully kitted-out cinema room, complete with striped carpet, high-end speakers, a private bar, and giant jars of his Candy Kittens sweets. Sophie, 30, meanwhile, insisted the kitchen was the heart of the home, saying: “I always wanted a massive kitchen with a big island. For me, that is the heart of the home.”

Neighbours in the well-heeled area say the pair have “settled in well” and that renovations, while lengthy, didn’t cause disruption. One recalled: “I saw him out running the other day. Nobody makes a fuss around here. There are lots of famous people.”

In a sweet twist of fate, the couple revealed they had struggled to find a home until the grandmother of the property’s previous owner spotted a newspaper article about their search and insisted they were the “perfect buyers.”

While Jamie initially hesitated, Sophie fell in love instantly and even threatened divorce if he didn’t agree to put in an offer that very same day. He later admitted: “That was the clincher.”

The couple are now preparing to welcome their first child later this year, with Jamie joking that completing the house before the baby’s arrival felt like “just in time.”
