‘You’ve got five seconds!’: Alex Jones sparks backlash after cutting off Rob Rinder mid-sentence on The One Show

Fans slam BBC show for cramming too many guests into 30-minute runtime, leaving Rob Rinder rushed and viewers frustrated.

Viewers were left fuming after Rob Rinder was abruptly cut off during his appearance on The One Show, with co-host Alex Jones telling him he had just “five seconds” left to speak.

On Tuesday night’s (June 17) episode, presenters Alex Jones and Clara Amfo welcomed a packed lineup: Rob Rinder, director Danny Boyle, actress Jodie Comer and actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

While Danny, Jodie and Aaron were there to promote their upcoming film 28 Years On, Rob appeared to discuss his latest murder-mystery novel The Protest and his new Channel 4 show The Inheritance, produced by the team behind The Traitors.

Just as Rob began describing The Inheritance as a “social experiment” involving people vying for a mysterious inheritance and revealing the psychological twists that shocked him each time, Alex suddenly interrupted.

“You’ve got five seconds!” she warned, prompting Rob to speed-talk the rest of his explanation and mention his co-star Elizabeth Hurley as “amazing.”

Despite the hosts laughing off the moment, many viewers didn’t find it amusing.

Taking to social media, fans expressed their frustration. “Disappointing cut off ending tonight. #theoneshow tries to squeeze too much into 30 minutes. It’s awkward for guests who barely get time to speak,” one viewer wrote.

Others criticised the imbalance in airtime. “Too many guests – not enough time for proper interviews,” one Facebook user commented. Another viewer added, “Would have loved to hear more from Jodie Comer. She barely got a word in!”
