The moment Fiona Phillips recognised who she was – she held an ice lolly and enjoyed it with the innocence of a child, and didn’t forget to say: “Hello, really good of you all, okay, bye!”

Fiona Phillips has shared a heartfelt thank-you video with fans following the release of her deeply personal memoir about living with early-onset Alzheimer’s. The former GMTV presenter, now 64, was diagnosed in 2022 at the age of 61. Her husband, Martin Frizell, uploaded the touching clip to Instagram, showing Fiona enjoying an ice cream during a sunny walk in the park.

Despite her condition progressing to the point where she sometimes struggles to recognise her loved ones, Fiona appeared cheerful in the video. Wearing a simple white top and holding an ice lolly, she beamed at the camera and said: “Hello! Thank you for reading my book. Really good of you. Hope you like it. Okay, bye!”

The video was posted alongside a caption from Martin, who recently stepped down as the editor of This Morning. He wrote: “Out for a walk and an Almond Magnum on a hot London afternoon and some words of gratitude for all the kind folk thinking of delving into her book.”

The memoir, titled Remember When: My Life with Alzheimer’s, was co-written with journalist Alison Phillips and provides an honest, emotional insight into Fiona’s journey with the disease. Fiona hopes the book will shine a light on the realities of Alzheimer’s and help others feel less alone.

“I hope this book can show people a little about what it is like to live with Alzheimer’s – how frightening and confusing it is. But also how much life can still bring joy and be valued,” she shared in a recent statement. “And if you or someone you love is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s, I hope this book brings you some comfort. I want you to know, you are not alone.”

The post was met with an outpouring of love and support. TV stars like Susanna Reid and Alice Beer commented their admiration, while many fans expressed joy at seeing Fiona smiling in the sunshine. One wrote, “So nice to see Fiona looking so great.” Another added, “Big hugs to you both.”
