The glittering night of the British Soap Awards was brought to an abrupt and terrifying halt after a suspected bomb threat forced the evacuation of the Hackney Empire venue in London.
Some of TV’s biggest soap stars, including Tameka Empson from EastEnders and Hollyoaks alum Emmett J Scanlan, were seen standing outside the theatre after security ordered all attendees to leave just before 1am.
Initially, no explanation was given as security staff made rounds, instructing everyone to evacuate immediately. However, shortly after, the truth emerged — the venue had allegedly received a bomb threat, and no one was allowed back in.
One insider shared: “We were all asked to leave without knowing why. Then we were told it was a bomb threat. Everyone was stunned. Some people waited outside for a while, but soon many started heading home.”
The awards night had been hosted by Jane McDonald, with beloved stars like Sir David Jason and Larry Lamb also taking the stage. But what was meant to be a night of celebration quickly spiraled into confusion and concern.
Despite the panic, no injuries were reported, and the situation was managed swiftly by on-site security. Still, the dramatic interruption cast a dark cloud over what had been a joyous occasion celebrating Britain’s top soaps.
