TV favourite Rylan Clark has opened up about the emotional reason behind one of the most meaningful things he’s ever done — building a house for his beloved mum, Linda.
The 35-year-old presenter, best known for his roles on Big Brother, This Morning, and Ready Steady Cook, has always been close to his mum. But in a candid interview, he revealed just how much she’s helped him through the darkest chapters of his life.

Speaking to The Guardian in 2022, Rylan recalled his mental breakdown and how Linda’s love became his lifeline. “If it wasn’t for my mum, and my family and close friends, I genuinely have no idea if I’d be here,” he said through tears. “I learned I’m worth something. That I should be proud of myself, not embarrassed of Rylan.”
Reflecting on how far he’s come, Rylan shared his most heartfelt gesture yet — building Linda a home of her own. “I should be proud that I can build my mum a house. I should be proud that I can employ my family. I learned that,” he said.

Rylan revealed more on Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast, explaining that Linda, who suffers from Crohn’s disease, now lives just five minutes away from him in a custom-built home. But not everything goes to plan — especially after he gave her the gate code.
“The worst thing I ever did was give her my gate code,” he joked. “I’ll tell her I’m working, just to get a bit of peace — but at 9am I’ll hear, ‘Ello!’ and she’s already in the driveway asking whose car is outside!”
Through the tears, the laughter, and the honesty, Rylan’s story is a beautiful reminder that success means nothing without love — and sometimes, the most powerful thing we can do is come home.
