OFFICIALLY LEAVING THE UK: Kate and Rio Ferdinand have put their £10.5 million UK mansion up for sale, marking their official departure from Britain—nine months after beginning their “new journey” in Dubai

Rio Ferdinand has put his lavish £10.5million UK mansion on the market, in what appears to be the clearest sign yet that his family’s move to Dubai may be permanent.

The former Manchester United star, 47, relocated to the UAE in August 2025 with his wife Kate Ferdinand, 34, and their children, describing the move at the time as a “new journey” for the family.

Now, just nine months later, the couple’s seven-bedroom mansion in Orpington, Kent, has been listed for sale — sparking fresh speculation that the Ferdinands have no immediate plans to return to Britain.

The sprawling home sits inside the exclusive gated estate of Farnborough Park and covers an impressive 12,500 square feet, surrounded by 20 acres of land. Estate agents have described it as a “truly prestigious family home”.

The property includes seven bedrooms, two dressing rooms, a gym, a triple garage, a studio and an office. The listing describes it as an “architect-designed masterpiece” offering “an exceptional standard of living”.

Rio is believed to have bought the property for £2.7million in 2008, meaning its current £10.5million asking price is nearly £8million higher than what he reportedly paid.

The sale comes after Rio publicly questioned tax rises in the UK, saying on LBC Radio: “If things like the health service, for example, was absolutely flying and working perfectly well then I think people wouldn’t mind paying tax.”

He added: “But when there’s things that are falling apart and going wrong in the country, then I sit there and go, we pay towards tax and is it really going towards the things that are actually benefiting the people that live here? And that’s the big question that needs answering. I think a lot of us know the answer to that.”

Rio has also spoken warmly about life in Dubai, saying the move had given his family a different kind of lifestyle.

He said: “In Dubai, it feels like they’re valued and the lifestyle means that they’re happy and vibrant with a good energy for the kids. Lifestyle, safety, weather – it’s just a new life.”

However, the family’s new chapter has not been without frightening moments. Earlier this year, Rio revealed they had been forced to shelter in their basement during drone attacks linked to the Iran War.

He recalled: “It’s frightening when you hear missiles, planes and fighter jets – I don’t know what it is – going above us, and you’re hearing big bombs, and what that is we don’t know as we don’t know the details of what they are.”

Despite that terrifying experience, the decision to sell their UK mansion suggests Rio and Kate may now be looking firmly ahead — and leaving their old life in Britain behind.
