Jools Oliver, wife of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, has shared the raw and painful truth behind her five miscarriages, including one near-fatal loss that left her with PTSD and lifelong flashbacks.

“I Didn’t Tell Anyone — Not Even Jamie”
Although Jools and Jamie Oliver are proud parents to five children — Poppy (23), Daisy, Petal, Buddy, and River Rocket (born in 2016) — their journey has also included devastating loss.
In a powerful interview on the Life & Soul podcast by the baby loss charity Saying Goodbye, Jools revealed that she struggled in silence, overwhelmed by guilt. Despite already having four children, she felt judged for wanting more.
“I didn’t tell my friends. I didn’t even tell my mum. I thought people would say, ‘You’ve got everything, why are you pushing it?’” she explained. Even Jamie, she admitted, didn’t fully know she was pregnant again. “I didn’t want to put him through the pain,” she said.

A Near-Death Experience
Jools’ second miscarriage nearly cost her life. What began as minor bleeding quickly escalated after she delayed medical intervention. The moment of crisis hit while she was at a routine breast check.
“As I was getting my boobs checked, I just felt a gush. It kept coming… I went to the loo and everything was coming out. I stuffed nappies, toilet rolls, anything I could find,” she recalled.
Unable to stop the bleeding, she eventually called an ambulance. “When Jamie got to the hospital, it looked like a murder scene,” Jools revealed. “I don’t remember the rest. I must’ve passed out.”

“I Will Have These Flashbacks Forever”
The trauma didn’t end there. Jools says the experience left her with post-traumatic stress disorder, and she still suffers vivid flashbacks. “These are memories I’ll carry with me forever.”
Jools’ bravery in speaking out sheds light on the silent grief many women endure — and challenges the stigma around miscarriage, especially when it happens beyond the first loss.
