Fletchers’ Family Farm: Kelvin shares series four update
Life hasn’t always been plain sailing for Kelvin Fletcher and his wife, Liz. On Sunday, ITV broadcast a repeat from the first series of Fletcher’s Family Farm following the conclusion of the new series, which documents the beginning of Kelvin and Liz’s journey to run their own farm in Cheshire.
During one segment, Kelvin and Liz speak candidly about hosting their first event at the farm, and it’s fair to say the pair were far from prepared when they first embarked on the venture. The couple squabbled as Kelvin confessed they were “just trying to survive.”
As they attempted to get their children and farm animals fed, Kelvin reflected, “Any parent will be able to relate to this, we are always that family that is always late. Once in a blue moon, we will be on time.
“I have not even brushed my teeth this morning, I have not had a shower, I’ve not done anything. It will get to midday, and I’ll realise, I haven’t eaten breakfast, I haven’t done this, I haven’t done that, but that is the nature of the beast,” reports the Mirror.
He continued, “I do say to Liz, there will be a time when it’s a bit more settled, and it’ll be easier. We will look back and think, ‘Do you remember those days? Do you remember when I was feeding the twins, and you were out with the kids feeding the pigs? How did we do it?’
“I don’t know, it’s all a blur. It will be one of them where we don’t know how we did it, we just survive it. Yes, it’s crazy, yes it’s chaotic, but it’s beautiful.” After dropping the kids off at school, Kelvin and Liz found themselves at odds over the planning for their first farm event, with Kelvin admitting that the pair “don’t always see eye to eye”.
While Liz assured him she was prepared, Kelvin countered, “You’re not ready.” Holding up some ribbon Liz had purchased, Kelvin remarked, “This trail probably goes over about 60 acres, and she’s going to decorate it with five bits of ribbon.”
Liz appeared unfazed, laughing the comment off. Elsewhere in the programme, the couple faced a heartbreaking loss when one of their sheep struggled during the birth of her lambs.
The pair were compelled to intervene and assist the sheep in delivering her second lamb, after the first one tragically died.
“It just feels dead,” Kelvin said as he pulled the lamb from its mother. A visibly emotional Liz responded, “That was hard because you feel like you’re going to break their legs, but you have to get them out. It is just really sad to see them like that, all floppy and….it’s horrible.”
“It’s heartbreaking to see that and witness that,” Kelvin said as he shared his regret. “Should we have got involved 15 minutes ago? Would that have made a difference? But there is a fine line between shoving your hand up every two seconds to letting nature take its course.”
He added, “It’s never a good sign the first one being like that, though.” The situation appeared to deteriorate further with the second lamb, as the sheep showed no desire to push, prompting Liz to remark, “She has given up.”
Fletcher’s Family Farm is available to watch on ITVX.
