The 58-year-old Good Morning Britain star was seen beaming as she left Smooth Radio studios on Tuesday, unable to wipe the smile from her face. And now, the reason behind that glow may finally be out in the open.
Broadcaster Liam Halligan has confirmed that he and Kate are growing close — a connection that comes after both of them found themselves single “against their wishes.”
Speaking candidly on TalkTV with Mark Dolan, Liam didn’t shy away when asked about his private life. Instead, he admitted that while things are still early, there is something quietly developing between them.
He explained that he has known Kate for years and was also familiar with her late husband, Derek Draper. Reflecting on their shared past, he said that in recent years, for different reasons, they had both ended up single, not by choice — and that had brought them closer together.
In his words, they have become “good friends” in recent weeks and months, adding that it is early days and they will see what happens.
The pair’s bond appears to have deepened away from the spotlight too. Over the weekend, Kate travelled to Liam’s hometown of Saffron Walden, where she joined him at The Railway Arms pub while he performed with his band, The Hooligans.
According to Liam, Kate attended with a group of friends, and the night quickly became a talking point among locals. He revealed that some neighbours were thrilled to see her there, even sharing photos online after spotting her in the pub.
Sources at the venue described a lively atmosphere filled with singing, dancing, and laughter — and noted that Kate and Liam seemed completely at ease in each other’s company.
One insider shared that the two looked genuinely happy together and appeared to be enjoying each other’s presence, with Kate having reportedly visited Liam’s home several times in recent weeks.
Their connection is rooted in a long history. The pair have known each other for more than 20 years and share many mutual friends — including Kate’s late husband, Derek, who passed away in January 2024 following a cardiac arrest after a prolonged battle with Covid-related complications.
Since his death, Kate has faced an incredibly difficult journey, raising her two children while navigating grief and rebuilding her life.
But those close to her say this new chapter — whatever it may become — is bringing a welcome sense of light back into her world.
A friend revealed that Kate and Liam genuinely enjoy each other’s company, describing him as someone who makes her laugh and lifts her spirits. While Kate herself remains unsure about where things may lead, those around her are simply relieved to see her smiling again.
