“It’s Still Ticking”: Emma Willis Breaks Down on Lorraine as She Shares Lifelong Heart Condition and Emotional Recovery Journey

TV presenter Emma Willis has opened up about the lifelong impact of her recent heart surgery in an emotional live interview on Lorraine, leaving viewers moved and inspired.

The 49-year-old star appeared on the show alongside her husband Matt Willis to promote their new ITV series Change Your Mind, Change Your Life. But the conversation quickly turned personal as Emma shared the moment she discovered she’d been living her entire life with a hole in her heart — a condition only identified earlier this year.

“I found out in January. I’ve had it my whole life,” she revealed. “It was a total shock. I went in for a check-up and it turned into something I never expected.”

Emma underwent keyhole heart surgery in April, avoiding a full open-heart procedure. Though physically healing has gone well, she admitted the psychological aftermath has been more difficult. “There’s no scar you can see. The wound is internal, so the hardest part has been wrapping my head around the fact that my heart has to learn how to work differently now.”

The Voice UK host confessed she suffers from “terrible anxiety” and described the mental toll of preparing for surgery: “I’m a chronic overthinker. My mind went into overdrive before the op — it was exhausting.”

Grateful for her recovery, Emma expressed deep thanks to the Royal Brompton Hospital staff and her surgeon, Dr Ee Ling Heng. “I’ve been walking around for 48 years with a hole in my heart and had no idea. Modern medicine is incredible,” she said. “And Ee Ling – she’s not just skilled, she’s magic.”

Fans flooded social media with messages of support following the broadcast, praising Emma’s bravery and honesty. For many, her story was a reminder that even the strongest among us carry silent battles — and that healing is as much about the mind as it is the body.
