“I’m Doing My Best”: Caroline Quentin and the Heartbreaking Promise She Made After Her Friend’s D.e.a.t.h on Mother’s Day – And the Child She Refuses to Leave Behind

Caroline Quentin has opened her heart in a deeply emotional message, revealing the devastating loss of a close friend while vowing to stand strong for the daughter left behind.

The beloved actress, known for her roles in Men Behaving Badly and Life Begins, shared her grief with fans on Mother’s Day, offering a rare glimpse into a personal tragedy that continues to shape her life.

Taking to Instagram, Caroline, 65, posted a touching throwback photograph showing her cradling a newborn baby girl. Standing beside her in the image was the baby’s mother — Caroline’s dear friend, Carola — who has since passed away.

Reflecting on the moment, Caroline revealed the baby is now her goddaughter, and she has made it her mission to support her through life without her mum.

She wrote that the photo captured her goddaughter on the day she was born, adding that the woman standing beside them was “her mum who is no longer with us,” before promising: “I’m doing my best to be there for her beloved girl.”

Ending the tribute with a simple but heartbreaking note, she added: “#mothersday Miss you Carola.”

The emotional post quickly struck a chord with fans, who flooded the comments with messages of love and admiration. Many praised Caroline for her strength and compassion, with one supporter writing that she was “a wonderful, wonderful person,” while another called her “an incredible godmother.”

Caroline responded warmly to several comments, making it clear just how deep her bond remains. When one follower remarked that she looked completely in love with the baby in the photo, Caroline replied: “I did. I love her so much still.”

Beyond her role as a devoted godmother, Caroline is also a mother of two. She shares daughter Emily, 26, and son William, 22, with her husband Will Farmer.

However, she has previously admitted to struggling with “empty nest syndrome” after both children moved out — and spoke candidly about the guilt she carries from prioritising her career during their younger years.

She confessed that being away from her children left a lasting emotional impact, saying she “missed them terribly” and that the experience “left a hole” in her. Reflecting on that time, Caroline admitted she wishes she had made different choices, explaining that while she now regrets not turning down more work, “you can’t turn back the clock, you have to live with these things.”
