Nicola Roberts has emotionally revealed she underwent surgery during her pregnancy to “help keep baby in” as she shared a deeply personal update with fans ahead of welcoming her first child.
The 40-year-old Girls Aloud star, who is expecting her first baby with fiancé Mitch Hahn, opened up about the difficult journey she has faced behind the scenes while proudly showing off her growing baby bump on social media this week.
Now 34 weeks pregnant, Nicola admitted she has been under strict instructions from doctors to rest during the final trimester after having surgery at just 22 weeks pregnant.
Sharing a collection of cosy springtime photos, Nicola wrote: “Some pics I took this week.. Hasn’t it been so nice to really feel spring..”
She then revealed the worrying complication that changed the course of her pregnancy.
“I’ve been under instruction not to do much since I had the surgery at 22 weeks to help keep baby in. Hitting that 34 week mark was a big relief.”
The singer continued with an emotional reflection on the final weeks of pregnancy, admitting the experience has become physically exhausting despite her excitement about meeting her baby.
“I now only have a few weeks left. Safe to say, this last bit is not the easiest is it?! In one breath, it will be nice to feel more comfortable again but I will also really miss my bump and having this tiny little thing in there.”
Among the photos shared with fans, Nicola could be seen cradling her bare bump while relaxing in bed with a cup of tea, while another snap showed her enjoying the recent warm weather with sunglasses and an ice lolly during a car ride.
As part of her recovery and bed rest, Nicola also revealed she has been spending time watching The Real Housewives while taking things slowly ahead of the birth.
The singer first hinted at pregnancy complications back in January when she was forced to pull out of her remaining performances in the West End production of Hadestown, where she had been starring as Persephone.
Nicola officially announced her pregnancy on Christmas Day last year with an emotional Instagram post alongside fiancé Mitch Hahn.
She wrote at the time: “Mitch and I have had the most magical Christmas Day sharing the most precious news with our families.
“We’ve been keeping a secret. We are five months pregnant! We can’t wait to meet our little one in the spring.”
Nicola and former footballer Mitch, 37, became engaged during a romantic trip to the south of France one year ago.
Earlier this month, Nicola celebrated her upcoming arrival with a glamorous Bridgerton-themed baby shower attended by close friends and celebrities, including fellow Kimberley Walsh and TV presenter Laura Whitmore.
The emotional pregnancy update comes after Nicola recently reassured fans that both she and the baby are now “doing super well” as she safely entered her third trimester.
