“I want to be by his side… but he already has her”: Ruth Langsford tries to stay strong as she keeps up her Pilates routine after feeling “bereft and helpless” following ex-husband Eamonn Holmes’ stroke

Ruth Langsford is trying to stay strong — but behind the scenes, the emotional toll is said to be overwhelming.

The 66-year-old presenter has thrown herself back into her fitness routine, sharing a video of herself at a Pilates studio just days after her ex-husband Eamonn Holmes suffered a shock stroke.

In the clip, Ruth is guided by her instructor Siobhan Lloyd as she tackles a challenging vertical lift on a Combo chair. Encouraging her through the move, Siobhan tells her to “lean through it” and “trust yourself,” pushing her to engage her core and power through.

Despite clearly struggling, Ruth completes the move — looking visibly exhausted before playfully curtseying to the camera.

Sharing the moment with fans, she admitted: “Back in the studio today… it was a tough one! Siobhan had me doing some vertical work… Blimey it was hard but I did it… just! Not the most elegant dismount but practice makes perfect… I hope!”

But while she’s keeping up appearances, those close to Ruth say she is quietly battling heartbreak following Eamonn’s sudden health scare.

The former couple — who split in May 2024 after 27 years together, including 14 years of marriage — are now navigating a painful new chapter after Eamonn was rushed to hospital last week.

Sources claim Ruth has been left feeling “bereft and helpless,” fighting the urge to rush to his bedside — where he is currently being cared for by his girlfriend Katie Alexander, 44.

One insider revealed that her instincts are to call or go to him, but she keeps reminding herself she can’t. They added that Katie has been by his side, praying for his recovery, while Ruth has had to step back completely.

Instead, Ruth is said to be receiving updates through their son Jack, 24, whose relationship with his father has reportedly been strained since the split.

Friends say the situation has reopened emotional wounds, with one source describing it as “almost like mourning the breakup all over again.”

They added that although Ruth had been hurt and angry after the separation, Eamonn’s illness changed everything — forcing her to put those feelings aside as her caring instincts took over.

For someone known for her nurturing nature, being unable to help has reportedly left her feeling deeply unsettled.

Meanwhile, Eamonn, also 66, is said to be recovering well in hospital. Over the weekend, he shared a touching update with fans, posting a photo of his granddaughters holding “get well soon” signs.

He wrote that he would do his best to recover soon, thanking supporters for their messages, saying they give him strength.

His son Declan also spoke out, admitting the stroke came as a “real shock” to the family, but reassured fans that his father is doing okay under the circumstances and that they are taking things one step at a time.
