Coronation Street legend Beverley Callard has shared an emotional and deeply personal update, admitting she has been living “in denial” as she continues her battle with breast cancer.
The actress, best known for playing Liz McDonald on the ITV soap for three decades, revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer and underwent surgery soon after. Now, as she waits anxiously to learn whether the operation successfully removed all traces of the disease, the reality of her situation is beginning to hit.

Taking to Instagram, the 69-year-old star appeared visibly emotional as she opened up about the “weird” few days she has experienced following her birthday. She explained that while she had tried to keep life normal — enjoying quiet celebrations and spending time with colleagues — a routine medical task forced her to confront what she had been avoiding.
She said that registering with a new GP in Ireland, where she has relocated to film Fair City, meant going through everything that had happened — and it made her realise just how much she had been suppressing her feelings. She admitted that she is in denial a lot of the time.
Beverley reflected that staying busy with work had helped her cope, keeping her mind occupied with scripts and lines. But with a break from filming ahead, she now finds herself with time to think — and that’s when the weight of everything becomes unavoidable.

She confessed that part of her has even questioned whether the diagnosis was real, saying she sometimes thinks maybe they were wrong and she didn’t have it at all. However, she acknowledged that the uncertainty is overwhelming, especially as she waits for crucial results that will determine whether she is cancer-free and if the disease has spread to her lymph nodes.
Earlier this month, Beverley revealed she would face a four-week wait to find out the outcome of her surgery — a period now filled with emotional highs and lows.
As she continues to navigate this uncertain chapter, her candid admission of denial and vulnerability has struck a chord with fans, many of whom are facing similar fears in silence.
