Beloved Harry Potter actress Miriam Margolyes has opened up about her mortality in a heartfelt and brutally honest confession, revealing she doesn’t believe she has many years left.
Now 84, the fan-favourite star who portrayed Professor Pomona Sprout in the wizarding franchise, reflected on her health struggles and the reality of aging. “I’m probably going to die within the next five or six years, if not before,” she admitted in a raw interview with The Times. “When you know you haven’t got long to live, it’s hard to let go of something that gives you so much joy.”

The actress, known for her wit and candour, added that she still longs to perform — though her strength is fading. “I yearn to play roles that don’t confine me to wheelchairs, but I’m just not strong enough.”
In recent years, Miriam has battled spinal stenosis, arthritis, and rheumatism. In 2023, she underwent aortic valve replacement surgery — receiving a bovine valve in place of her own. “I’ve got a cow’s heart now,” she quipped last year on a podcast, maintaining her signature humour even in the face of serious health challenges.

Her emotional revelation comes as the Harry Potter community continues to grieve the loss of many cherished cast members, including Robbie Coltrane, Alan Rickman, and most recently, Maggie Smith in 2024.
While fans eagerly anticipate HBO’s new adaptation of the wizarding world, Miriam’s words serve as a poignant reminder of the human fragility behind the magic.
