BBC bosses reportedly issued a behind-the-scenes apology to Geri Halliwell-Horner after an extremely awkward interview with presenters Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt left the Spice Girl feeling “ambushed”.
The incident, which took place in October 2023 but has recently resurfaced, saw Naga directly ask Geri: “Do you not like being interviewed?”, catching the 52-year-old completely off guard.

According to insiders, Geri felt the questioning crossed a line and was particularly rattled when Naga made reference to her personal life. “It got frosty really quickly,” one source said. “Geri didn’t expect that tone and felt blindsided.”
Following the segment, several staff members allegedly apologised to Geri for what they described as Naga being “a cow” to her. Geri reportedly made it clear she would not appear on the programme again with the current hosting duo.

The interview had started with Geri enthusiastically outlining the motivational “rules” in her latest book, even pointing at Naga when mentioning bravery. But the tone quickly soured when Naga interjected, questioning Geri’s intentions and approach.
At the time, Naga had recently opened up to MPs about her struggles with a uterus condition, which made Geri’s pointed comments feel even more personal.
Meanwhile, tensions continue to boil behind the scenes at BBC Breakfast. Editor Richard Frediani is currently on extended leave after the BBC launched a formal probe into bullying and misconduct allegations within the team.

Some staff have branded the newsroom “toxic” and compared it to The Hunger Games, with one source claiming that a deep divide has formed between presenters and production. While Naga has reportedly led the charge in raising concerns, others have come out in defence of Frediani, calling him a “brilliant journalist” whose blunt style is misunderstood.
Despite the chaos, BBC Breakfast remains the most-watched morning programme in the UK, even as its red sofa becomes a battleground off-camera.
